Who Let the Dogs Out?

Today was the last day of my summer class, technically. Tomorrow is just the final exam, so there’s no real teaching.

When I was driving home today, I passed by an old friend of mine. I saw him just sitting on the curb in our neighborhood in like 90 degree weather. Being honest, I had to do a double take to be certain it was him. I screeched my brakes and quickly pulled over. My parallel parking was really shitty and, being honest, I sadly fit into the bad driver Asian stereotype. I got into 6 (both minor and major) accidents in only one year and I’ve only had my license for 2 years. Anyways, I called out to him to see what he was up to.

Truthfully, this guy was my friend’s ex. I’m not really sure if their breakup was messy or not due to the fact her and her sister still follow him on Instagram. All four of us (me, her, her sister, and him) have met up after the break-up to play at an escape room, too. Also, me and him were friends, so it’s not like out of nowhere I’m talking to my friend’s ex.

So, it turned out he found two stray dogs on his afternoon run. Both were black and white and were medium-sized dogs. I’m not an animal person and I’m terrified of dogs, but these were really friendly and instantly scurried to me. I was still freaked, but it was a kind gesture from the dogs I guess. I went back into my terribly parked car and U-turned it around to park it where the homes were, and not just misaligned on the main road. I ran back over to him and he said his theory was that the dogs probably got spooked from the fireworks last night, ran out of their yard, and got lost. He called animal control already and had been waiting for 45 minutes for them to come. He seems to be such a good person. If it was me, I would’ve just kept walking after seeing the dogs. They aren’t my problem, and yes it’s cruel, but I wouldn’t have cared so much for animals I’m terrified of.

Apparently, after waiting by himself for so long, he felt lonely and had to phone a friend to keep him company. He introduced me to his friend and we talked for a little while waiting for animal control. They actually came really fast. Maybe after 10 minutes I arrived, animal control showed up. The animal control person was an old man with graying hair. He did not look like he can handle wild animals, but there’s probably a good reason why he still has his job. My friend ended his call and went to talk to the man (which thank god because it’s REALLY hard for me to talk to strangers).

Even though the dogs were friendly with me, once they saw this man approaching them wearing all sorts of gear, they instinctively back away. Well, this is no longer on our hands. The man thanked us and said this problem is his now and that we can leave. I turned over to my friend and asked him if he needed a ride home. He was a track athlete in high school and seeing how he was running again, I’d thought he’d want to run home. Not to mention that his house was nearby, but, he took up my offer. I didn’t mind. It’s actually been awhile since I’ve seen him in person, and not just chatting over Instagram or Snapchat.

The ride to his house was fun. We reminisced about the good old days, caught up with each other, and asked about future plans. We got to his house fairly fast, and just before leaving, he thanked me for keeping him company.

TLDR: I saw my dawg and then I saw some dogs.

P.s. If anyone make dog eating comments cause of that Asian stereotype, I swear to god I hope you fucking kill yourself.
