The Rain Starts Pouring In (Part 3)

I wake up first, again. And, again, I get dressed to go to the anime convention. I reuse my My Melody cosplay since the extra maid costume I bought had too many confusing bands/straps, and my cow costume is a bit too skimpy for an un-showered alcohol-smelling body. Make-up is too complicated right now, and I really want to get to the convention early. Sundays are the emptiest days of the convention. By now, everyone has had their fill of anime con days 1 and 2 and most has already checked out of their hotel rooms. I especially like the last day due to some vendor’s “everything must go” discounts. Pretty is still dead asleep on the sheets so I quietly sneak away.

When in the hall, I buy a lot more stickers. Some of the vendors are nice and give some stickers away for free. I asked most of the stalls if they had any “oopsie bins” (bins with stickers/pins that had any misprints and are selling at a discounted price). Most stalls don’t have any, but some vendors are nice enough to give me a discount anyways. Just because one of the stalls don’t have an oopsie bin, doesn’t mean I’m not going to still give their products a look. I have a couple of my friends’ birthdays coming up so I stock up for them as well.

When I get back, Pretty is still knocked out. She doesn’t fully awaken until 4pm. Apparently, she’d had stomach issues all last night and all early morning. Pretty has a condition where if her period is about to come, she has horrendous cramps. Most of the time, she’d even have to call out of work because of the pain. Me, on the other hand, I’m extremely lucky and get almost no cramps at all. Anyways, so the pain mixed with the stomach issues made it difficult for Pretty to fall asleep last night. It was all fine. We didn’t have much planned out this day any ways. We did, however, have 2 tickets to a food night market happening that evening. I told her that if she was in too much pain, then we could just skip it since the tickets were really cheap anyways ($7 per person), but she was really adamant about going.

I was really happy to hear that, so the both of us got showered and dressed for the event! Nothing too crazy though. I wanted to still feel comfortable so I just went in simple shorts and an oversized sweater. On the Uber to the location, it actually dropped us off at the wrong spot. Even though the address was correct, the GPS showed us to get off at a supermarket. Our Uber driver was actually driving pretty erratically so even though it was the wrong drop-off location, we both wanted to get out and just order another Uber driver. Our next driver was super nice. He was an old man that was really sweet and funny. He dropped us off at our location safely and to the night market we go!

Obviously, food at a night market in America will be extremely overpriced, just like foods at a carnival or an amusement park. Surprisingly, the overpriced food was actually pretty tasty! There were fruit teas/boba tea in a huge animal shaped bottle for $30 each with free refills, we got bao buns in the shapes of cute animals, there were Japanese sushi hand rolls, chocolate/custard/red bean filled taiyaki, and grilled oysters. We had a really good time. Sure it hurt our wallets, but at least the food was tasty. Not completely worth it, but I think it would be a worse experience to spend that much money on subpar food. The lines weren’t too crazy long and would actually moving pretty fast.

When we first went through the entrance, we actually bumped into Pretty’s family. It was a surprise since our home town was so far away from where the night market was taking place. We said a quick hello and goodbye to them, and they said that they were so bored at home, saw an advertisement for this event, and decided to go. They didn’t expect us to be there, too! To their disappointment, since they came in the afternoon when the event just opened, they had to wait in longer lines in a crazier heat. By the time me and Pretty were there at night, all the stalls had gotten in their groove so they were pumping out their food fast.

I wanted to stay a bit longer, but out of no where, Pretty’s cramps started acting up. She really wanted to stay longer, too, since the night market was so fun and pretty, but she couldn’t take it. I wasn’t too mad. I’ve been to this night market before, and we’ve both had our fills. We took really cute photos with our foods and made great memories.

We Ubered to our hotel. I figured since our trip was basically done, we didn’t need to stay until the next day to check out. I felt bad for how much pain she was in, so I pitched the idea that we could just pack up and leave now. She felt a bit bad about ‘ruining our trip’, but I reassured her that is wasn’t like we had plans for tomorrow anyways. By now, it was 10pm and we agreed to start packing. We paid for our stay, got the valet around, and headed home.

TLDR: Trip got cut short, but fun memories were still made.
