Tattoos and Graduation
Everyone here already knows that I’ve graduated last winter. However, my school is so fucking cheap, they combine the winter and spring graduates into one ceremony. Fair enough. Can’t complain since it’s not like I earned my degree fair and square anyways. Instead of utilizing the school’s football stadium as every other college would do, my school rented out a real stadium nearby for the ceremony. Again, because of how cheap they are, the school squeezes each major to fill out the time slot. The roll call for my major’s graduation ceremony? 6:30 am. It’s an hour long drive to my school and I need at LEAST 2 hours to get ready, so I glance at my laptop’s clock to see it read “2:53 am”. I take my L and head for the shower. Although check-in time for graduates begin at 6:30 am, the ceremony itself starts at 8am. To save on gas, my parents just ride with me to the stadium and wait in the car until it’s time for them to go in. Neither my parents nor I want to attend the ceremony so early in the morning but my mom preaches, “I wasted money on both of my daughters to go to college, I should at least attend ONE of their graduation ceremonies.” Sadly, when my sister graduated college, it was in the peak of COVID so we just celebrated at home.
Even though it was so early in the morning. I found it fun. I got to see old classmates I haven’t seen in a while and it was just fun to experience something new. Although, my heels were killing me and I still have a 1/2 an inch open blister on the back of my foot. The official graduation pictures were sent out yesterday, and I must admit, I do look pretty dashing.
I didn’t stay for the whole ceremony since I was sleep-deprived. I was within the first 25% of names called and I tried to stay longer but I was so sleepy. When my friend next to me said she was heading out early to beat traffic from the parking garage, I ran out with her. My parents said they had their eyes peeled on the screen for my name, but managed to miss my walk across the stage. Not too sad, since from the sidelines, I was able to hear Club President cheer out my name. Her boyfriend was graduating as well so she was here to knock 2 birds out with 1 stone.
I met with my parents early outside and we were able to take photos together before the area got bombarded with all the other guests and graduates. Club President also met up with me and surprised me with a bouquet of flowers! I took out my Polaroid camera and was able to snap photos with other friends and family members as well too! Glad I walked for the memories, but I wouldn’t want to do that again in a VERRYYY long time.
After the ceremony officially ended, hoards of people came out and immediately flooded the area. My parents and I decided to make a break for it before the parking garages got too congested with traffic and so I bid my friends adieu. Although my parents and I were really tired, my mom wanted to treat me out to a meal before we headed home but since we were in a city we didn’t really know. We just stopped by a random Vietnamese restaurant to try. It was disgusting. At least the ride home was nice for them. They got to nap while I sleepily drove us home.
I came home and knocked out after setting an alarm for 6:30pm. For what? MY TATTOO APPOINTMENT!!!! I never thought I was the type of person to ever get a tattoo. Before, if anyone ever asked me, I would always say I wouldn’t want a tattoo since I was too indecisive. I was scared of committing to a tattoo, but hating it down the line. Also, I’m terrified of needles. I can sit there and take the pain, but that doesn’t mean the pain doesn’t hurt. Why am I suddenly getting a tattoo out of nowhere? Well, silly, I’m getting matching tattoos with Pretty! I don’t bring her up in my blogs as often nowadays, but we still do hang out and talk very often. I just don’t document all of it out of laziness.
A couple weeks ago, I saw a tattoo idea on TikTok and thought it was cute. I showed it to Pretty saying it would be cute if we got it together. She agreed. I didn’t think she’d actually do all the work of finding an artist and getting a quote for the tattoo but by the time she did, it was too late for me to back down and admit that I was saying it just to say it. If I talk the talk, I need to walk the walk, right? So fast forward and here we are getting inked together late at night. The tattoo is a mix of dots and diamonds that go down the line of my arm with a sun (of course her’s is a moon instead) smack dab in the middle. I’m doing a terrible job of explaining but it somewhat looks like this in the middle of my arm “«••♥·♦•☼◦‣··♦·•“ ok I don’t think that did it justice either because that looks so ugly typed out.
Whoever said tattoos don’t hurt IS A FUCKING LIAR. It’s like a scalpel is dragged across your skin and you just need to sit there and take it. By the second dot the tattoo artist was drawing, I wanted to tap out, but I couldn't leave Pretty hanging so I stuck with it. Pretty was better at it though. Earlier this month, she already got her first tattoo. If any of you have ever watched the anime ‘Fairy Tail’, she has the symbol of the guild on her right arm. A bit cringe if you ask me, but hey, I wanted the Sailor Moon symbol on my wrist so what can I say. Since she’s better at taking the pain, she got her moon colored whereas I just left mine to be outlined black.
Will I get another tattoo? Maybe. It’ll probably be another matching tattoo with someone else, since again, I’m very indecisive.
TLDR: getting tatted the same day I graduate is so baller. Ugh yea im such a cool girl. #edgy (I hope my sarcasm translates well)
