Playing Inspector

(hello this is a VERY short post, this whole week was busy and I developed food poisoning AGAIN yesterday, so my schedule is a bit out of wack. i don't want to keep delaying my uploading schedule, so please enjoy this for now)

Nowadays, living at the owner’s house is pretty okay. When I wake up in the morning, I have a bowl of breakfast already waiting for me and dinner by the time I get home from work. Every night at 7 she invites me out for a quick walk around the neighborhood, and I get to play with all the stray cats. I’ve been eating her food now for 2 weeks, and I’ve got to say she’s a good cook.

One evening, I was getting hungry. I had some leftover’s from my parents that I brought back when I visited from the weekend. All I needed was some extra rice. I asked the owner if I could have a bowl, and she very happily obliged. Rather than the normal white sticky rice I’m used to, she’s a health-nut and mixes in some brown rice in, too. That’s all fine with me. I was really hungry that day since I skipped lunch earlier, and began chowing down when the food was ready. As I’m getting down to the last 2 bites of my rice, I start slowing down a bit since I was getting fuller and started to pick at the grains. Some were brown, some were white, and some were…black? WITH LITTLE BLACK LEGS? ANTS! I’ve said before that this place has an ant-infestation issue, but huh I never thought they’d even get inside the bags of uncooked rice. With the last spoonfuls of rice left in my bowl, I started picking around seeing how many ants I could find. The answer? 4 ants. In the last 2 spoonfuls had 4 ants. H a h. It was a big bowl of rice, too. I wonder how many of those I swallowed. If it was one, I could think maybe it was a fluke, but nope. 4 ants definitely means the whole pot was infested and I just ate them all up. I also wonder how many other times when I ate her food was there ants mixed into the grains… It makes me nauseous to think about.

Boiled/steamed ants look funny. Rather than their usual long, skinny figure, they bloat up and look like beetles.

TLDR; always inspect your food. Don’t just blindly chow down.
